The second largest city in the prefecture, Uji is famous for its green tea, its river and the famous Byodoin temple, much appreciated by travelers. The region around the city is a tea-producing area, much to the delight of aficionados of dreamlike landscapes composed of green tea fields on the mountainside. Going to Uji also means enjoying a historical cultural heritage, landscapes changing with the seasons and specialties, such as the Uji green tea curry. Its proximity to Kyoto is also an important asset. It is possible to spend a day there as well as to put down one's suitcases for an overnight stay.
