Kinosaki Onsen is one of the most popular hot springs in Japan. In 1925, an earthquake followed by large fires destroyed it. During the reconstruction, the people wanted to keep the old architecture and the spirit of the town. Today, there are 74 hotels and ryokan and still seven public baths. In spring, the cherry trees are beautiful and in the evening, lanterns light up the waterfront. The city is considered by its inhabitants as a single ryokan. You are strongly encouraged to put on your yukata and go and discover the hot baths, restaurants and stores of the city.
