The capital of Wakayama Prefecture, the small town of the same name is located about 30km south of Kansai International Airport, facing Kanku Bay. It is a crossroads for all visitors traveling to and from the prefecture. Wakayama has a castle built in 1585 by Hideyoshi Toyotomi, but it was destroyed during World War II. What we see now is a reconstruction of it. One can enjoy the restaurants of the city to taste the many freshly caught seafood. An overnight stay in the city can make it easy to get to Kōya-san the next morning.
