Located southwest of Kyoto City, a few dozen minutes by train, Nagaokakyo is an interesting starting point to discover this part of Kyoto Prefecture, famous for the Otokuni bamboo grove. Several remarkable tourist sites are scattered around the city, some of which are well known to locals and travelers alike for the colorful spectacle offered by the beauty of autumn in Japan. The proximity to the ancient capital can be experienced by visiting the various temples and shrines in the vicinity, such as Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine and Mukojinja Shrine, to name a few.
