A charming coastal town south of Wakayama, Yuasa has been designated as a preservation area for groups of traditional buildings(Judenken) in the category of historic industrial town. It is also the birthplace of soy sauce in Japan(shoyu). Its architectural heritage reflects an authentic vision of the Edo period (1603-1868). Not very touristy, it is a pleasant stopover in one of the quietest historical settings. The district is made up of narrow streets that wind between old buildings and sauce warehouses.
