Continuing from Achtarak up the Arakadz, we take a road that winds through the peeled and stony sides of the mountain to reach, after 12 km, a small wood, a rare remnant of the forests that once covered the region, where the small village of Biurakan is nestled. It is best known for its observatory, where the internationally renowned astrophysicist and true national glory, Victor Ambarstoumian (1908-1996), conducted his research and which is still in operation. But the purity of the sky and the air has not only attracted scientists: Biurakan is also the summer residence of the Catholicos, a religious dimension attested by the monuments that have been preserved there.
