From Talin, heading south towards Achtarak and Yerevan, a stopover is required at the village of Aruch, which houses the remains of a medieval caravanserai and a large church, with remains of 7th century frescoes representing the Traditio Legis. This church adorned a town where the Mamikonian princes had their palaces, but the villagers seem more proud of the statue erected in the 1960s in honour of General Andranik in Ujan, defying a Soviet ban.
