Halfway between Gyumri and Yerevan, leaning against the south-western flank of the Arakadz, Talin plunges us into the rural atmosphere of the Armenian high plateau. Surrounded by pastures, which had to be cleared of volcanic stones, it had a glorious past during the time of the kingdom of Ani, as the ruins of its beautiful cathedral and, in the lower town (Nerkevi Talin), a medieval fort with sections of walls and towers of black volcanic stones remind us. Populated mainly by genocide survivors, proud of their traditions inherited from their ancestors in Western Armenia, it is a large agricultural town with modest stone and mud houses.
