Day 1: First steps in Yerevan

Steps: Erevan

Arrival in Yerevan and installation in the capital, where you will reside throughout the duration of the stay. First contact with the city and the inhabitants: there are numerous cafés terraces, which await you on the square of the Republic (Hanrabédoutioun), ex-place Lenin and always the nerve centre of the Armenian capital, with its national architecture obedient to the Soviet aesthetic canons, or on the square of Liberty (Azadoutioun) or the Opera, which you will gain by wandering through Abovian Street, the liveliest artery of the capital. Sunset on Mount Ararat, from the gorges of the river Hrazdan to the Erevan brandy factory.

Day 2: Cultural visits and discovery of the many treasures of the city

Steps: Erevan, Etchmiadzine, Zvartnots

Visit of Yerevan and its museums, including the National Gallery on the Place of the Republic and genocide and museum, the Persian Mosque Goy and the Erebouni Fortress. In the afternoon, a small kilometres to Etchmiadzin, the Armenian Zvartnots near the airport.

Day 3: Spiritual day between temples and monasteries

Steps: Etchmiadzine, Garni

Visit of Etchmiadzin if it could not be done the day before (foresee the visit if possible during a religious office or better, during the great religious holidays). In the afternoon, the short excursion to Garni's Hellenistic temple and following the visit of the monastery of Geghard and its chapels will familiarize you with the country. On the way, unparalleled panorama on Mount Ararat from the ark of Tcharents.

Day 4: Hike on Sevan Lake

Steps: Dzaghkadzor, Sevan, Dilidjan, Haghartsin

Excursion on the shores of Lake Sevan, a freshwater table of 1,300 km ² to almost 2,000 m above sea level, via the mountain community of Dzaghkadzor, with the Ketcharis monastery nestled in the forest. Gastronomic stop on a peninsula of Lake Sevan, at the foot of two churches of the tenth century. Continuation of the excursion beyond the Col de Sevan, in Dilijan, gateway to northern Armenia, verdant and covered with forests. On the detour of a forest road, visit the medieval monastery of Haghartsin, surrounded by steep mountains on the edge of a torrent.

Day 5: Shopping and opera evening

Steps: Erevan

Relax and relax in Yerevan, at the caring of its inhabitants. Visit of the Museum Paradjanov and the Museum of Modern Art. Shopping (weekend at the opening, capital flea market); In the evening, the theatre, the dramatic theatre and the other places, bars, clubs and games venues that have opened their doors in recent years.

Day 6: Pilgrimage to the Amaghou-Noravank Monastery

Steps: Khor Virap

Discovery of the South, in favour of an excursion to the monastery of Amaghou-Noravank, via the pilgrimage site of Khor Virap, on Mount Ararat. Wine-growing villages en route.

Day 7: Excursion around Mount Arakadz

Steps: Mughni, Saghmosavan, Gyumri, Talin

Tour of Mount Arakadz, huge extinct volcano covered with snow dominated by the high Armenian plateau and its dome of churches, monasteries and fortresses (Saghmosavan, Hohanavan, Mughni, Harithavank, etc.); stop at Gyumri, ex-Leninakan, which is slowly recovering after the terrible earthquake in December 1988.

Day 8: End of stay

Departure from Yerevan.
