Sanahin, perched at an altitude of 1,016 m, is a modest village made up of a few chalets, gathered around its medieval monastery, which is the pride of its inhabitants. Unusual in the village is a Soviet fighter plane of the Mig-21 type, in homage to its builder, a local child, Artem Migoyan, to whom a museum is dedicated, as well as his brother Anastase, a Soviet diplomat who went through all the purges. But the pride of the villagers is the monastic complex, announced from the valley bottom by a superb medieval bridge over the Debet. The monastery was one of the first Armenian monuments to be classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.
