From Ohanavan, continuing northwards towards Abaran, one leaves the main road 5 km further, to head towards the Kazakh canyon, at the level of the hamlet of Saghmosavan. The eponymous medieval monastery has the same scenery as the Hovanavank monastery, but the site is even more grandiose, the Kazakh Gorge, on the edge of which this teeming monastic complex stands, being even deeper. At the bottom of the gorge is the thin stream of water from the river, which has cut into the high plateau, as shown by the impressive folds in the walls of the gorge.
