Mottola has a cathedral of the XII-XVI century and many Basilian rock sanctuaries: the church of Santa Margherita, decorated with frescoes representing the saint and other sacred figures and above all the church of San Nicola, which offers one of the most precious cycles of paintings in the park of gravine. The holy figures frozen along the walls have preserved their luminous colors inside this space carved in the tufa, divided into three naves separated by pillars and arches. 4 km south-east of Mottola, the rupestrian village of Petruscio, composed of caves on several levels, is lost in a gravina among the pines.
