Like Alberobello, Locorotondo is known for its trulli. The town is built "in the round" (which is how it got its name), perched on a plateau at an altitude of 410 m. The town is built on a plateau at an altitude of 410 metres, with pointed roofs made of dry stone, the cummerse, small streets paved with chianche (local stone) and low whitewashed houses, picturesque and emblematic of the towns in the valley. Locorotondo is also much more protected from mass tourism than its neighbour Alberobello. However, the largest number of trulli can be found there, but here they are scattered in the contrade (rural settlements on the outskirts of the towns).
