The town is home to famous 17th-century sailors who pioneered postal traffic in the Mediterranean. The Bogorodičin Hram church, dedicated to the birth of the Virgin Mary, commands admiration with its elegant rows of staircases. Another must-see is the Buća family palace or Tre Sorelle Palata (House of the Three Sisters). According to legend, three sisters were in love with the same sailor and awaited the return of their beloved. When one of them died, the other two decided to wall up her bedroom window. A second sister suffered the same fate, and only one window remained open to the sea.
