Tivat is known as the newest town in the Mouths of Kotor. Its origins date back to the Middle Ages, when the aristocracy of Kotor began building second homes to take advantage of the site's particularly mild climate. Today, the town has modernized its airport, leading to an explosion in tourist numbers and the construction of numerous hotels. Tivat has also expanded its millionaire marina, Porto Montenegro. For over a century, hundreds of turners, locksmiths and boat builders were trained in Tivat. Today, the finest yachts, flying flags from all over the world, come and stay here. Tivat's landscape is characterized by a rugged coastline, mountain slopes and a nature reserve, Tivatska Solila. No wonder over 100 species of birds frequent this sanctuary! Solila is widely recognized as an excellent example of good protected area management: Tivat was named one of the top 100 sustainable destinations in 2020 and won the Green Destinations Sustainable Story Award 2021 in the "Nature and Ecotourism" category, thanks to its work on the restorative change management of the Solila Special Nature Reserve. Tivat is constantly changing its image, with new tourism investments such as Porto Montenegro and Lustica Bay, without losing its traditions and local hospitality.
