Joyuda has always been a peaceful coastal fishing village, between the sea and the lagoon, located between the towns of Mayagüez and Cabo Rojo. The Joyuda lagoon is a huge natural reservoir 2.4 km long and 1 km wide. It is fed by salt water that comes from the ocean through a very narrow channel in the south of the lagoon, which makes it an ideal fishing site. The small restaurants around it offer local seafood-based cuisine that attracts visitors for the ultra-freshness of their products. It is also a place for kayak excursions and bird watching (130 species of birds listed in the area)
