For Puerto Ricans, it is from this village of barely 6 000 inhabitants that begins the famous panoramic road that crosses the heart of the island. Maricao is located 25 km east of Mayagüez on Route 120.The second week of February is the coffee harvest festival. Here you don't celebrate the collection of coffee as elsewhere. A whole festival accompanies this important milestone in the Puerto Rican agricultural year. Popular music, special preparations of coffee and tank parades are the programme.
