Puerto Ricans often refer to Añasco as the city "where the gods died". We must go back to the Spanish history of the island. A legend says that the Taino Indians, who populated the region at the time, decided to drown a Spanish soldier to prove that the European invaders were not gods. Once the proof was made, they rebelled against them. The origin of the city dates back to 1733, when the Spaniards and the Indians decided to found it together. Today Añasco is best known for its beautiful coastline, as well as for its pastel de hojaldre, a delicious pastry made with puff pastry.
