Hakone-Yumoto is a famous spa and one of the access stations to the Moto-Hakone area, Gōra and Lake Ashi. As it is located in a volcanic region, it is best known for its hot springs. Numerous more or less luxurious ryokan are lined up along the valley. One comes here to relax after a day's sightseeing in the area. The hotels and ryokan of Hakone-Yumoto are taken by storm on weekends by hordes of Tokyoïtes who come to relax in groups. This gives them a very authentic feel. One meets there as much foreign tourists as families with children coming from Tokyo to breathe the fresh air.
