Kōfu is located in the Kai basin at the foot of the Chichibu Mountains. A spa town, its soils also allow it to make wine. Kōfu was the residence of the Ichijō during the Kamakura period. Katsuyori Takeda was the Daimyō of all the provinces of Kai. He was defeated in 1581. The city was administered by Hideyoshi Toyotomi before coming under the influence of the Tokugawa until 1868. The vine was imported from China in the 6th century. It is planted on fairly high trellises and the grape varieties, some of them French, give a wine that is appreciated thanks to the sunshine of the hillsides. From Kōfu, take the Chūō Line Limited Express train to Shinjuku in 2 hours.
