Another small post house town with its traditional houses, Magome was rebuilt after the great fire of 1895. It does not have the perfection of Tsumago, nor its movie set look. It is the hometown of the novelist Shimazaki Tōson (1872-1943) and you can visit the museum dedicated to him. His novel The Family describes the two towns (Magome and Tsumago) in the Meiji period quite accurately.
