Mamou would not be Mamou without the construction in 1908 of a railroad, linking the Guinean capital to Kankan. Located on the right bank of the Bafing, the city developed by becoming a stage of the railroad. Having become the capital of the Timbo circle, it benefited from the decline in the influence of the former capital of theocratic Fouta and was in fact chosen as the site for the installation of the last Almamy (religious leader). Crossroads between the roads of Upper Guinea, Fouta and the forest region, it is also a place where all the Guinean ethnic groups mix. Cabs and trucks carrying passengers, agricultural products and handicrafts cross its roads without stopping. You can buy food there.
