What is now just another village was once the political capital of theocratic Fouta. It was from Timbo that the Almamys ruled this powerful state. Of this past power, there is not much left. The mosque dating from the eighteenth century and in which many Almamys came to make their devotions has been replaced by a modern construction, inaugurated in 2016. There is still the European cemetery where reckless settlers sleep for eternity (located on the track marked "Niagara and Gongore" at 1 km). Note the bridge over the Bafing River at the exit of Timbo, which provides a nice view of the river.
