This small sub-prefecture is nowadays known for its waterfall, a real link between heaven and earth. In other times, René Caillié passed through the village in his journey towards Timbuktu. A plaque, unfortunately quite damaged because it is not well maintained, testifies to his passage on May 8, 1827. Don't hesitate to read his account of his journey to Timbuktu. But Ditinn is above all in the heart of a historically dynamic agricultural area. Created in 1920 and nationalized under Sékou Touré, a farm there worked to improve the local cattle breed by importing bulls from Russia. Today there is not much left of this state farm except for a few old buildings, some of which have been taken over to create a private poultry farm. Even though the latter has lost some of its size, it continues to supply eggs to the large cities nearby. On market day (Thursday), cabs and trucks leave Dalaba for Ditinn center. There are still 6 km to go to reach the waterfall. You can choose to do it on foot or ask a motorcycle cab to drop you off.
