Paksane, or Muang Pakxan, a small provincial town of more than 30,000 inhabitants, is not a must-see stop for the traveller. And until not so long ago, it was the scene of anti-communist exactions. But for some time now the region has been made safe and now offers a much more peaceful face. However, the city is a stopover on Route 13, between Vientiane and Vietnam, which explains its liveliness. One can also enter Thailand via the border post there, but it should be noted that few travellers pass through there.
