To reach this town on the Lao border, 25 km from Khong Giam, you must take Highway 217 (in very good condition). In Laos, a few kilometres away, a nearly brand new bridge (built by the Japanese!) crosses the Mekong to reach directly Pakse, the main communication hub of South Laos (at Chong Mek level, Thailand's border is no longer confused with the Mekong River, which flows more to the east). A popular market is located near the brand new border crossing. Many products are circulating: Laos, but also Vietnamese and Cambodian. It is not possible to renew its stay in Thailand by making a return to Laos during the day, as is being done in Malaysia. Or you must pay the price of a Lao visa ($ 30 for one month of stay): not'relaxation'of the procedure between the two countries at the moment.
