This peaceful town of about 25,000 inhabitants was founded by the French on the banks of the Sedone River. Saravane was totally destroyed during the Indochina war, as it was on the Ho Chi Minh trail. As in Xieng Khuang, the traces of the bombings are still visible. Today, the economic activity has resumed a new boom and constructions are growing all over the city. The annual festival, at the time of the full moon in February or March, brings the city out of its lethargy. The ruins of the old Wat Chom Kheo temple are well worth a visit. Otherwise, there's not much to do there except explore the area ..
