Located 130 km from Pakse, Sekong, capital of the province of the same name, was created in 1984 after Ban Phon was declared uninhabitable because of the high presence of UXO (unexploded bombs). This town of about 20,000 inhabitants has no real charm. We stop there to go to Attapeu by boat or we pass there if we make the big loop of Pakse in the Plateau of Boloven. Recent constructions appear everywhere. The few foreigners present work for the United Nations or another NGO. Illiteracy is still high in the region and demining is far from being finished. It is possible to visit several surrounding villages
