Surrounded by mountains, Hermagor is at the heart of a major ski area: 110 km of snowy slopes and 80 km of trails for cross-country skiers. The equipment is up to scratch and everything is done to satisfy all types of skiers. The nearby Garniten Gorge is particularly rich in minerals. The trail through the gorge provides information on the geological history of the region, with the help of orientation tables and mineral charts. An instructive walk, but also a sporty one: some passages require a steady step and others, particularly impressive, are not recommended for people prone to vertigo.
