Situated at the confluence of the Ziller and Gerlos rivers, Zell am Ziller occupies a central position in the Zillertal. The small community is family-friendly and quiet and is known for its remarkable Baroque church with its dome frescoes depicting over 100 biblical figures. The village of Gerlos lies on the road upstream of the river Gerlos to the fabulous Krimml waterfalls in the Salzburg region. At the beginning of May, the traditional Gauderfest, Tyrol's biggest folk festival, takes place. Traditional costumes and local beer are the main ingredients of this wild festival.
