Located between Þórshöfn and Egilsstaðir, Vopnafjörður is a small fishing port with 560 inhabitants. The region boasts some of the best salmon rivers (Hofsá, Vesturdalsá and Selá). Over the years, Prince Charles has become an avid salmon fisherman here... A reference point? In the 18th and 19th centuries, the town was also booming, propelled by the fishing industry. A reconstruction of this era can be found in the Bustarfell Museum (closed out of season). Although no longer so active, fishing remains one of the region's main activities. You'll also find many period houses as you stroll around.
