It's a lively, bustling port with a fish market. On the quayside, fishermen of all ages try their hand at fishing with often improvised lines. Small crab-fishing kits are available in every store. Looe is actually made up of two parts, East Looe and West Looe, linked by a Victorian bridge. The town grew up on the stone and copper trade. Its fleet was also highly reputed: in 1347, twenty ships took part in the siege of Calais, and other ships were used against the Spanish Armada. Its beautiful soft-sand beach attracts families in summer.
