On the south coast of Cornwall, St Austell has built its economy on the kaolin industry and the porcelain trade. It is this activity that has shaped the landscapes of its hinterland, but was also the subject of the major Eden Project redevelopment project, to conserve plants from all over the world. This is now the area's main attraction, but the town is also famous for its nationally renowned brewery. Its coastline and small villages are very welcoming. Stop off at the pretty Cornish harbours of Charlestown, Pentewan and, above all, Mevagissey.
