The most northerly of the inhabited islands is reminiscent of a tropical atoll, with its splendid white sand beaches and turquoise waters. It's an ideal place to get away from it all and relax. The island is just 3.5 km long, yet boasts some of the finest beaches in the British Isles, if not the world. From the crystal-clear waters of Lawrence's Bay to the expanses of Par Beach and Cheese Cove, each beach is as beautiful as the next. But behind these picture-postcard landscapes lies an enterprising and diverse community, and the 130 or so inhabitants are warm-hearted people.
