Campobasso, the capital of Molise, stands at an altitude of 700 meters on a rocky promontory overlooking the Montebello valley. This medium-sized town (about 47,000 inhabitants) has managed to develop industrially without losing its charm. Unjustly neglected by tourists, probably because of its geographical location (sea and mountains are not nearby...), Campobasso is worth a visit. The walk that leads to the Monforte castle, which dominates the town, is charming. It crosses the old town, passes in front of the Samnite museum, and leads to a terrace with an enchanting view of the surrounding villages.
