Travel Guide Matrice

Nestled in the green hills, Matrice is a village of just over 1000 inhabitants, 20 minutes northeast of Campobasso. Its main tourist attraction is undoubtedly the Abbey of Santa Maria della Strada, which is located to the north of the village, outside the inhabited center. It is one of the most beautiful examples of Lombard architecture in southern Italy and is well worth a visit during a tour of Molise. You can also take the time to walk through the medieval center of Matrice, where there are several palaces with beautiful stone portals, the church of San Silvestro Papa, the church of Sant'Antonio and the Ciaccia palace, also worth seeing.
