SANTUARIO SANTA MARIA DEL MONTE

The church was the burial place of the families of the successive lords who ruled Campobasso. Built on a three-aisle plan, it contains a polychrome marble altar, topped by a statue of the Virgin Mary made in 1334, and frescoes by Leo Paglione and Amedeo Trivisonno. The statue of the Madonna dei Monti is venerated and seen as the protector of the city. A procession is organized every year in her honor on the last day of May.
