This isolated village, located 110 km from Beirut, has the particularity of having 30 churches (previously the number was 40). It has become the most frequented pilgrimage place in Lebanon today. In the centre of the village lies the ruins of a medieval chapel with a single nave. On the mountain summit, a Roman temple is partially restored. This temple is characterized by its ionic style, its vast courtyard and its huge wall, its thirty pillars more than one metre in diameter, its great altar and its three decorated entries. Dedicated to the God Mercure, he was built under Emperor Hadrian towards the year 117-138. During the Lebanon war, the temple was looted and damaged. Among the 30 churches, many retain their original form but fall into ruins too.
