The climb to Kassab remains an unforgettable moment on the Syrian journey. A vertigineuse road leads through a wooded setting overlooking the sea. At half-way, a lake rises in the middle of the green carpet. A few small wild coffees have settled on the borders of the water range. A very pleasant stop to accompany delicious cakes of nature, thyme or cheese, made on site in bread kilns. After an hour's journey from Lattakia, the houses are occurrence and you can see the sea. Too often ignored by foreign tourists, this "nature" excursion surprises its landscapes and climate that contrast with the rest of the region. A large village perched at 800 m above sea level, Kassab, the ancient Croisés of the crusaders, is now a popular summer resort. The city is governed by an Armenian community, divided into Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant, and you can admire the many places of worship. Most Armenians in Kassab communicate in Armenian, however, which is unique to the surrounding community. Armenians have settled in the region for 800 years (not since the genocide of the early twentieth century, as we could think). To sample Kassab's good air, you can choose to make a short step before entering Turkey. Kassab can mainly serve as a point of drop to explore the Syrian coast and find the wild coves hiding along the coastline. The closest and easiest access is Samran behind Kassab, 20 min by car.
