You will be surprised by the tranquillity of this village and the beauty of its houses and gardens. Aamchit (which is the birthplace of the current Lebanese President Michel Sleiman) is a charming village that has preserved its traditional houses (still account for about 90) facing the real estate frenzy. Some villas (including the Wehbé family, Zakhia, Lahoud) are remarkable with their large garden and Venetian and Oriental style architecture. Luckily, you may be invited to visit one. Often owners are happy to show part of their heritage. The grave of the sister of the French writer Ernest Renan (Henriette Renan) is located in the upper part of the village. Foudroyée by a malaria crisis, she was based in the Zakhia family's basement, which had hosted Ernest Renan during her stay in Aamchit in 1861 when he was digging in the Byblos region. The village of Aamchit also has many ancient churches (more than), the most beautiful of which are: St. Zakhia, St. Sophia, St. Georges and Naya.
