At night, Damascus appeared as an Oriental mirage. The lights, such as a thousand stars, illuminated it so well that the boundary between the sky and the earth seemed to have dissipated. On the day, it looked like a gigantic anthill on which Mount Qassioun stood at about 700 m altitude. His name, which has come into use, also leaves endless daydreams: Damascus roads, damasquinées blades, damask fabrics or Damascus rose. This wonder of the East is the third holy place of Islam after Jerusalem and Mecca and appears on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
