This port town of 2,200 inhabitants is accessible by road. A legend tells of the origin of the village's Turkish-sounding name: one day, while visiting the delta, Sultan Mahmud fell in love with a girl and asked her to marry him. But her heart was already taken. The sultan ordered her to weave him a shirt that would withstand neither water nor fire, before sunset, or he would kill her lover.
