It's a small town of barely 1,000 inhabitants, created in the 1950s for fish farming and reed harvesting. Bordered by a vast fish farm, it lies on a peninsula, framed by the Sulina Arm and the course of the Old Danube, some twenty kilometers from Tulcea. It's a gathering point for fishermen, birdwatchers and tourists attracted by nearby lakes Furtuna and Gorgova.
