The second largest city in the country (about 430,000 people), MoBay or Bay for those in the know, is the capital of the parish of Saint James. It is the4th largest urban area behind Kingston, Spanish Town and Portmore. This former sugar port is now the oldest tourist center on the north coast of the island. MoBay has several assets: paradisiacal beaches, luxury hotels, an international airport, a pier reserved for huge cruise ships, duty-free stores and a luxury marina. The city is a haven for the international jet set and the Montego Bay Yacht Club is well attended It is also an important commercial and industrial center, with a dense port activity. To the south, the Montego Freeport is a free trade zone that reflects the economic importance of the city, as well as the cargo in the deep water port. The city continues to grow and expand as the mirage of tourism attracts rural populations in search of hypothetical jobs. Montego Bay unfolds in an amphitheater protected by forests climbing the hills. The bay is vast, hemmed in by a succession of beautiful sandy beaches and surrounded by numerous coral reefs. However, MoBay has not been able to escape the covetousness of real estate developers. When seaside rhymes with concrete... With its high towers and buildings of approximate aesthetics, the city is having trouble digesting its real estate push. The tourist area now extends over 15 km, from Rose Hall in the east to Reading in the west. We also appreciate the 100% Jamaican life of its downtown during the day
