DOCTOR'S CAVE BATHING CLUB
A postcard beach, born in 1906, when Dr. Alexander McCatty donated his property to the town. The grotto from which it takes its name once housed a healing spring, but was destroyed by a cyclone in 1932. The beach is hemmed in between hotels, so you can't see it until you enter. You can enter with drinks and food bought outside, but also with your snorkeling gear, which is well worth it, as rental is expensive. Jamaicans and tourists mix here, especially at weekends when the beach is crowded. A word of advice: get there early! The water is shallow, and you can dive into a natural bath of warm tropical water for hours. In addition to the white sand, turquoise sea and coconut palms, there are mangrove trees at the end of the sand spit, providing natural shade without the need to hire an umbrella. This side is quieter than the entrance to the beach, where you'll find rows of deckchairs and the restaurant. The rotunda bar is convivial and plays great dance hall and Afrobeat music. It serves excellent Jamaican dishes and pizzas at reasonable prices. On-site sanitary facilities are impeccably maintained (changing rooms, showers, toilets, etc.). There's a family atmosphere and two smoking areas on the beach. A party is organized here every Saturday by Pier One, who relocates to set up their sound system with their feet in the sand!
