SAM SHARPE SQUARE
The little square, Montego Bay's nerve center, sometimes experiences traffic jams worthy of the Place de l'Étoile! Pastor Sam Sharpe was the leader of what is still known as the "Christmas Rebellion" in 1831. Hanged in a public square in Montego Bay after having drawn several of the country's parishes into his revolt, he is one of Jamaica's national heroes. In addition to The Cage, the prison and jerk chicken stands, there's a small market, the Montego Bay Cultural Center and two large light screens that twinkle night and day.
