Negril is a seaside resort located 84 km from Montego Bay, with a population of about 3,000 and over 200 hotels. Don't look for the center, it is built around the few plazas at the intersection of West End and Norman Manley Boulevard. No building taller than the tallest palm tree sticks out on the waterfront or inland. This is the law that governs the urban development of Negril, "The Capital of casual" as it is known, which is still growing despite this limitation. The bay has long been a haven for pirates and many sea battles took place off the coast between the great European powers that were fighting for supremacy in the Caribbean. A few wrecks washed up on the coral beds bear witness to this eventful past. However, it is better to forget the lonely coves of the past. We are far from the deserted beach where a few fishing boats used to rest nonchalantly. Beaches that were the delight of bearded travelers with long hair and flowery outfits in the 1970s... The wonderful natural beauty of Negril that made it a mythical place has long been tamed by hotel development not always sufficiently controlled, to the despair of environmentalists and ecologists.Lazy and carefree, Negril has now become the Mecca of vacations: white sand, turquoise sea and sun. The city exists only thanks to the foreign visitors, each year more numerous, who made it the main seaside resort of the island. Here, only one word of order, idleness and rest, beach, sports and fishing parties, fish or lobster feasts, grandiose shows of sunsets with thousand shades..
