Small coastal and historical city, 100 km from São Paulo, with about 83,000 inhabitants. There are still some colonial vestiges. The beaches are not extraordinary, but about 20 km further south are the most beautiful in the country. For many people, São Sebastião is just a stopover on the way to the other centre of mass tourism in the state, Ilhabela. It must be said that São Sebastião is considerably cheaper. The channel between the two cities is one of the deepest in the world, allowing the passage of deep-draft oil tankers. The centre of São Sebastião concentrates services and historical buildings.
