It is a town of about 96,000 inhabitants, not very touristy. This seaside resort hidden in the Mata Atlântica has pretty beaches, unpolluted rivers and a magnificent forest protected by its national park status. The old centre has some good restaurants and bars. Itanhaém is one of the gateways to the Parque estadual da Serra do Mar. The largest park in Paulista covers 315,390 hectares from the border with the state of Rio de Janeiro to the south of São Paulo. Created with the aim of preserving this vast corridor of Mata Atlântica, its fauna and flora, it also has an educational and research vocation.
