Towards the end of the 19th century, the first settlers came to what was known as the Bois Township Mission. Although they lived mainly from forestry and agriculture, it wasn't long before they discovered what would soon make the area famous: granite. Granite was first developed on a small scale and then on a larger scale, bringing the industry to the forefront of the community. The arrival of the railroad in 1888 also contributed to its development. Nowadays, people come to Rivière-à-Pierre to enjoy a stay in the Réserve faunique de Portneuf.
